Identity & Transition Coaching
Supporting high-functioning individuals navigating relationship, career, and health transitions in mid-life.
When Life Shifts - And So Does Your Sense of Self
You are capable. Responsible. Often the steady presence in your family or workplace. And yet, in the second half of life, something shifts...
- A long-term relationship ends.
- A career that once defined you loses meaning.
- A health concern interrupts the illusion of permanence.
Sometimes these transitions arrive separately. Often, they converge.
From the outside we continue to function well. Internally, there may be grief, uncertainty, guilt, shame, or a quiet question:
"Who am I now?"
This is not a crisis of confidence. It is an identity transition.
What is Identity and Transition Coaching?
Identity and transition coaching supports individuals navigating significant life changes - particularly in midlife - where roles, relationships, health, or career no longer feel stable or aligned.
Many people at this stage describe feeling:
- lost in midlife despite external success
- disconnected from themselves
- uncertain about what comes next
- pressured to 'be fine' for everyone else
Identity and transition coaching isn't about quick fixes or forced reinvention - it's about creating space to steady yourself, regain clarity, and move forward in a way that feels grounded and true.
It is about:
- stabilising emotionally during destabilising periods
- processing grief and loss without performance
- untangling identity from outdated roles
- rebuilding self-trust
- rediscovering meaning and direction
Identity transitions are rarely visible - but they are deeply felt.
Signs you may be in an Identity Transition
You may recognise yourself here if:
- you look capable on the outside but feel unsettled within
- you have achieved what you once wanted, yet it no longer feels meaningful
- you are navigating divorce, relationship change, or loss
- a health concern has altered your perspective
- you feel grief, failure, or shame beneath a composed exterior
- you question who you are beyond your professional or family roles
This is not a weakness. It is often the beginning of a midlife awakening - a recalibration of identity.
Grounding before Reinvention
In culture that pushes reinvention, confidence, and rapid transformation, I take a different approach here.
Before rebuilding comes stabilisation. Before clarity comes grounding. This work creates space to:
- acknowledge what has been lost
- process emotions that have been held beneath an "I'm fine" exterior
- separate who you are from who you had to be
- make grounded decisions rather than reactive ones
When self-trust is rebuilt, clarity follows naturally.
The Reground & Rebuild Programme
A structured six-month coaching journey designed to support identity transition with depth and steadiness.
1Reground
Stabilising emotions, procession loss of what was, and restoring psychological safety.
2Separate
Untangling identity from former roles, expectations, and narratives that no longer fit.
3Rebuild
Reconstructing self-trust, meaning, direction, and a renewed sense of who you are now.
4Integrate
Embedding new aligned patterns whilst moving forward with steadiness and meaning.
A Quiet, Grounded Approach
This is not high-energy motivational coaching. It is psychologically informed, reflective, and steady. It honours the complexity of transition - particularly for high-functioning individuals who are used to holding everything together.
This is confidential, private 1:1 coaching for individuals ready to move beyond coping and toward clarity. Based just above Manchester, I work with clients across the UK and internationally via secure online sessions.
If this resonates, you are welcome to arrange an initial confidential conversation to explore whether this work feels aligned for you.
Testimonials
"One of the best decisions I've ever made.
I have worked with Rachel over the past year after going through a major life change and needing support finding a way forward. I can't describe how thankful I am for all of her support and guidance, for being understanding and empathetic when I was sad, but also for bringing humour and lightness at other times. It has been an amazing journey in understanding how my brain works, figuring out my values and what is important to me in life, understanding what brings me joy, and it has also provided me with a range of different techniques that I can call upon at any time to help me through whatever situation I find myself in. Rachel has helped me to see that I always have a choice in how I feel and how I respond to the things that happen in my life, and it can be as simple as changing my perspective to change the way I feel about something. Coaching has opened my eyes to a whole new way of living and seeing the world, and it really has been one of the best decisions I've ever made." - CW
"Challenging, uplifting and empowering all at once.
Rachel provided incredible support, firstly by helping me understand what coaching was about, so I could get the very best out of our sessions, and then by gently and patiently helping me face areas which I had been avoiding. She brings positivity to every session, no matter how sticky the topic, but doesn’t scrimp on accountability. I continue to experience deep shifts in my approach to my life which feel far more natural than where I was operating from previously. The results range from resilience in a moment to taking major steps in directing my career and relationships. Coaching has given me clarity to seek out the resources within as well as those available to me externally. Crucially, I feel connected to my choices and my actions, and I have gone from feeling "incapable" to enjoying being a (very supported) work-in-progress." - CS
